The 2001-02 season continues our popular Subscription Series, Parks Concert Series, and Around Town concerts. Have a look - there's something here for everyone. Our MicroBand will continue to present mini-concerts - generally taking a subset of the band into a senior center or similar location.

Fall Concert in the Park

The band's first outdoor concert of the season will present plenty of old favorites .. and a new favorite or two, as well! Bring the whole family, spread out a blanket, and enjoy a picnic dinner as the stars come out at this free concert.

20th Annual Record & CD Sale
Benefitting the Austin Symphonic Band & KMFA-FM

Sale runs from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. There will be a suggested $1.00 donation for admission to the sale.
(Refunded upon purchase, if desired)

This annual tradition continues (after last year's cancellation) with a bang, as hundreds of record aficionados from the area converge on KMFA's studios to peruse literally thousands of records that have been donated by friends of both the band and KMFA. The band will do two live performances between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

"Of Legend and Lore"
Subscription Series Concert #1

Throughout the centuries, there have been many tales of heroism and treachery, Good and Evil, and just plain wonderment.  This concert will include a dramatic presentation of "Ahab!" (Moby Dick), the complete musical works of Lord of the Rings, and (just in time for Christmas) a visit from St. Nicholas!  Join the ASB as we present some of the Legends and Lore in the first Subscription Series concert of the year.  This year's Subscription Series concerts will be presented in the new Austin High School Performing Arts Center.

Runout Concert

The first Runout Concert of the season takes place in Georgetown, Texas, at the Georgetown High School Fine Arts Center.

Georgetown High School is located at

2211 North Austin Ave.
Georgetown, TX 78626

The concert will be an Encore Presentation of the first Subscription concert, "Of Legend and Lore," sponsored by the Georgetown High School Band. Come and make the short drive to Georgetown for this special event.

Tickets are $5.00 general admission, and are available at the door or by calling the Fine Arts office at (512)943-5110.

The ASB Microband presents a free concert at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.  This concert will be videotaped and recorded by The Austin Music Network, Channel 15 on cable, so they can air it on TV.

"Shades of Blue & Jazz, Too!"
Subscription Series Concert #2
Michael Sizer, Guest Soloist

So sweet it makes it good to feel bad - the blues.   ASB sings the blues from the modern Blue Shades, by Frank Ticheli to Blues for a Killed Kat, by Jack End.   If you haven't heard an 80-piece band wail the blues, you're in for a musical treat you won't soon forget!    But you can't keep the music down for long!   Guest Soloist Michael Sizer on clarinet winds up this set with a tribute to Benny Goodman that will send you out singing and dancing!

Subscription Series Concert #3

For the last two years, the ASB has closed its Subscription Series with a specific country-themed concert (Scotland and Mexico, respectively). This year's concert is too big to be limited to just one country, so ASB presents music from all over the world! Join ASB as it presents a joyous selection of works, including:

Mother's Day in the Park

What better way to close out a great day with Mom than by taking her to a free concert in the park in her honor? The band will perform well-known tunes, including marches and musical numbers, that you and your Mom are sure to enjoy! Get there early to select the best seating .. this concert gets more popular every year.

Father's Day in the Park

ASB celebrates your Dad with this annual concert at the Zilker Hillside Theatre. Marches, patriotic melodies, and other familiar works are the order of the day - selections that will have your Dad's toe tappin' - as well as your own! Bring a picnic basket and spread out a blanket under the oaks at the Hillside Theatre.

The band makes its annual appearance at this slice of Americana, along the banks of the Colorado River in Bastrop. The evening (and the season) closes with a fireworks spectacular as the band plays on!
