Hiring the Austin Symphonic Band

Subject to our existing schedule, ASB may also be hired to perform by a city or organization at an event of their choice. The cost of a performance depends on a number of factors, including the desired size of the group to perform, the location of the performance, and the amount of music to be performed. With such a "one-cost" hire, the organization for which ASB is performing may choose to offer the concert as a free concert, or one for which admission is charged, in which case the hiring organization performs all tasks such as publicity, but keeps all receipts. Since we're an amateur organization, the cost is probably less than you might think. Since we're an award-winning group that takes our music seriously, we probably play better than you'd expect, given the cost! We can supply individual musicians, small ensembles, or the entire band - it's your choice. Another option, since October, 1999 is the "MicroBand" - a 25 to 30 member ensemble which plays simpler, more "traditional" (e.g. marches and similar) music.

Who hires the Austin Symphonic Band?

  • The Junior Olympics brought in the band to play for the opening ceremonies of its 2000 national Gymnastics Finals.
  • The Austin Musical Theatre hired the band to provide on-stage musicans for the opening two nights of its performance of The Music Man, starring Larry Gatlin.
  • The Summit at Westlake Hill hired the MicroBand for a performance at that senior center.
  • The Austin Handbell Ensemble hired a brass quintet from the ASB for a joint concert.
  • The Lake Travis Arts League hired the band to perform at "Under a Texas Sky XI," and invited the band to return in 2000 (unfortunately, a scheduling conflict prevented us from again performing).
  • The Austin Lyric Opera, with their strong record of using community artists whenever possible, periodically contracts with ASB to provide musicians when they are needed for "off-stage" groups. The 1997 and 2003 performances of La Boheme saw ASB musicians on-stage as well as off! The 2000 performance of Aida once again used intrepid ASB members on and off the stage.
  • The City of Round Rock hires the band each year to perform at its annual July 4th Celebration.
  • The City of Bastrop also has, for a number of years, contracted with ASB for its Loblolly Days and Old Iron Bridge festivals.
  • The City of Killeen brought the band in for a Sousa Spectacular.
  • Hyde Park Baptist Church annually hires about 40 ASB performers for its patriotic services before July 4th.
  • A quintet of ASB brass players recently performed at the Occupational Health Therapists Conference in Austin,as well as at weddings and other similar events.
  • The Austin Choral Society hired nine ASB personnel (3 trombones, 3 trumpets, and 3 percussion) for their Christmas concerts held at various area churches.
  • Noted local Composer/Arranger Clifton Jameson Jones has twice hired a 45-person subset of the ASB to record demonstration CDs of some of his works. Click HERE for some pictures from the January 8, 2005 recording session.
